Few stretches of the Turkish Mediterranean coast announce themselves quite as dramatically as Alanya does. The great promontory that juts into the sea here, crowned by a Seljuk citadel whose walls date to the thirteenth century, is visible from miles in either direction, and it sets the tone for a place where history and coastline are inseparable.
