Asturias faces the Cantabrian Sea with a particular stubbornness, and Gijon is the region's largest city, shaped by that same quality. Its church, cloisters, and theatre occupy a footprint that takes time to absorb properly, and the building now functions as a cultural centre hosting exhibitions and performances. It is the kind of place that rewards a slow afternoon rather than a hurried visit.
