葛林德瓦 指南
Few places in Switzerland announce themselves quite as dramatically as Grindelwald. Tucked beneath the north face of the Eiger, one of the most formidable walls in all of Alpine mountaineering, this village in the Bernese Oberland has drawn travellers since the nineteenth century, when the first wave of British mountaineers arrived to test themselves against the peaks. The Eiger, the Mönch, and the Jungfrau form a skyline that stops people mid-sentence, and the village itself sits at around a thousand metres, meaning the mountains are not a distant backdrop but an immediate, enclosing presence.
Grindelwald is a working village as much as a resort, with a main street that runs through its centre connecting the railway station to the older farming hamlets above. The lower village clusters around the Dorfstrasse, where the church, the local shops, and the cable car terminals sit close together. Above, the terrain opens into broad meadows and scattered chalets, and the views across to the Wetterhorn and the Schreckhorn are unobstructed for much of the year. The Jungfraubahn railway, which climbs through the mountain to the Jungfraujoch at 3,454 metres, departs from nearby Kleine Scheidegg, reached by a cog railway from the village itself.
