Few European capitals wear their geography as openly as Helsinki. Built across a peninsula and spilling out across more than three hundred islands, the city exists in constant negotiation with the Baltic Sea. Design District Helsinki, clustered around Punavuori and Ullanlinna, draws those interested in Finnish craft and contemporary design, a tradition rooted in the country's long relationship with functionalism and natural materials.
