Patong sits on the west coast of Phuket island, facing the Andaman Sea across a bay that curves in a near-perfect arc of pale sand. Bangla Road, running inland from roughly the centre of the beach, is the axis of Patong's nightlife and is best understood on its own terms: loud, colourful, and entirely self-aware. Further inland, the hills that ring the bay offer a different perspective, and the roads climbing out of town towards Kalim or Kamala to the north give a sense of how dramatically the landscape changes once you leave the flat coastal strip.
