Few places on the Mediterranean coast provoke as strong a reaction as Benidorm. The city's transformation from a small fishing settlement into one of Europe's most visited resort destinations happened with unusual speed across the second half of the twentieth century. The old town, the Casco Antiguo, sits on a rocky promontory between the two beaches and retains a different pace entirely, with narrow lanes, a blue-domed church dedicated to the Virgen del Sufragio, and a mirador that looks out across both bays simultaneously.
